LEARN MORE ABOUT DRIVER REHABILITATION

In the state of Colorado, a person who wishes to hold an instructional permit and/or driver's license must notify the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) if there is an illness or injury that may impact their ability to operate a motor vehicle independently and safely.  This would include a deficit with vision, physical function, cognitive impairment, and sensory and neurological changes. An evaluation with a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist would address those concerns, and fulfill the self-reporting requirements to the DMV through the completion of associated documentation.

Examples of situations and diagnoses for whom an evaluation would be prudent include, but are not limited to:
+ Learning Delayed/Disabled, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit, Dyslexia, Executive Function Disorders, and Global Learning Delays
+Limb Differences (malformation, malfunction, amputation), and Short Stature (under 5' tall)
+Visual Impairment, including Low Visual Acuity, Glaucoma, Visual Field deficits, eye misalignment and ocular control deficits, light sensitivity and contrast deficits, and non-congenital monocular vision
+Neurologic Conditions and Cognitive Impairment, including Dementias, Brain Injury, Stroke, Seizure disorders, Parkinson's Disease, Huntington's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophies, Peripheral Neuropathy, Guillain-Barre syndrome, Sepsis, and Post-Covid syndrome
+Psychological conditions, such as Anxiety, Impulsivity, Major Depression, Anger/Road Rage and other Mood Instability, and Substance Misuse/Abuse
+Age-related changes, such as decreased range of motion, limited strength, episodic confusion, slowed processing speed, delayed reaction times, and decreased hearing.
